LOW-ENERGY ENGINEERED HOUSE USING LAMINATED TIMBER
New home construction design by local Barcelona arquitects, available to be built on any suitable plot including steep inclinitations. Structure utilizes high-quality EU-sourced wood cross-laminated timber (CLT) frames fabricated in Austria based on the local design, then approved design specifications are transferred to the factory where the components are cut and assembled using computer-aided-design/manufacture. These are referred to as "engineered structures" rather than "pre-fabricated" because they are prepared and assembled based on a unique one-off client design, not a standard mass-production design.
The component manufacturing stage requires 2 to 3 months and a week for shipping; after foundation works and systems connections are prepared, the final on-site construction is only two weeks. This construction process provides more flexibilty in arquitectural style than a traditional brick structure, therefore able to utilize steep or complicated plots. CLT's high strength-to-weight ratio allows for creative designs such as longer cantilever sections than are possible when using heavy concrete beams. A wood structure is much more suitable to low-energy consumption than a traditional brick structure, allowing the house to achieve a higher certification, benefit from tax breaks and ensure low long-term energy costs.
